Peeling paint, soft or crumbling timber, dark stains and gaps where boards meet are the main signs of rotten fascia or soffits. Check from the ground after rain. A gutter that sags or pulls away often points to fascia problems underneath.
What to look for
- Paint that bubbles, flakes or lifts in sheets.
- Dark patches or green growth along the board.
- Soft or crumbling timber when pressed gently.
- Sagging gutters or brackets pulling out.
Why it happens
Water is the cause. Overflowing gutters, leaking joints and years of damp salt air keep timber wet. Once the paint breaks, rot follows.
What to do
Clean the boards so you can see their condition, then have any rotten sections replaced by a joiner. Fixing the gutter alone will not help if the fascia is gone. We clean fascias and soffits and tell you what we find; replacement is a joiner's job.
Common questions
Can rotten fascia be repaired?
Small areas can sometimes be repaired, but extensive rot usually means replacing the board.
Do you replace fascias?
No. We clean fascias and soffits and flag problems for a joiner to put right.
